Schertler Onorato Mead & Sears is pleased to announce that on March 1, 2021, Robert P. Trout joined the firm from Trout Cacheris & Solomon, the firm he co-founded in 1996.
Mr. Trout is a renowned trial attorney with over 40 years’ experience in civil and criminal litigation. His practice has concentrated primarily on complex commercial litigation and white-collar criminal defense, as well as the defense of administrative agency enforcement actions. Mr. Trout’s representations have covered a wide spectrum of substantive areas, including public corruption, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, antitrust law, the False Claims Act, securities law, mail and wire fraud, misappropriation of trade secrets, food and drug law, classified information disclosures, and legal malpractice defense. As part of his legal defense of a member of Congress accused of public corruption, Mr. Trout led the legal team that successfully challenged on Constitutional grounds the first ever search of a Congressional office. Mr. Trout also has represented numerous individuals and entities in high-profile investigations, including the investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller and the investigations into the Deepwater Horizon explosion and the Enron collapse.
Mr. Trout is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America in four categories (White Collar Criminal Defense, Bet-the-Company Litigation, Commercial Litigation, and Securities Litigation) as well as in Chambers USA, Washingtonian Magazine’s Top Lawyers, and Super Lawyers.
