On June 25, 2021, SOM&S partners David Schertler and Stuart Sears obtained a sentence of five years’ probation for a client under indictment in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering. The sentence followed the client’s 2018 guilty plea under Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 11(c)(1)(C). The client was educated in China, England, and the United States and holds a Ph.D. in bioscience among other advanced degrees. She was charged with four codefendants in a 45-count indictment alleging a conspiracy to steal trade secrets from pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline and related offenses.
